Balance and harmonize your nervous system through the physical vagus nerve and the five energetic prana vayus (energetic directions of life force). Often called the nerve of harmony, balance, equanimity, and compassion, the vagus nerve helps to regulate all of our bodily functions including our stress response.

This comprehensive practice includes gentle movements, pranayama (breath) exercises such as nadi shodhana (alternate nostril breath), and bandhas (energetic locks) to calibrate the nervous system and release habitual patterns stored in the body and mind.

Explore a deep journey of serene forward bends, long exhales, surrender, and radical trust through this gentle, grounding sequence. Explore an intentional focus on the vayus (winds) that move prana (energy) through your body. Empty and open, tranquil and clear, you can begin to develop the capacity to receive with grace whatever the winds of life have in store for you next. Complete your practice in a seated meditation guided by the poem "If You Knew" by Ellen Bass.

Heartbreaking, I wrote this years ago and still here we are... We must demand action of our leaders, our communities, our families and ourselves. We can do and we must all do better! PRAYERS and VIOLENCE Hollow prayers mean nothing on the lips of the comfortably complacent. Please keep your heads and hearts open enough to hear me out, because I know that I am complicit too. And being complicit, I am not just a victim, but fully empowered to do my part to make a change. Now, of course, we send out our thoughts and our prayers to those effected by the country’s latest mass shootings. And we will continue to do just that, until we can’t just do that anymore. Until it is our child who is never coming home; our well-loved son or daughter who is mentally ill and begins hurting themselves or another; our brother who lives at the bottom of a bottle; our sister who sinks into the abys of depression; our own aching heart that breaks so deeply that we can’t help but project that pain. So today while many of us rest, relatively safe and sound, thinking and praying for the tragedies of life, I ask: why wait? Why wait for our turn? Isn’t there something that can be done in this moment, before this kind of earth shattering truth knocks on our door? I wholeheartedly believe that the answer is yes. (continued in comments)

200HR YOGA IMMERSION/TEACHER TRAINING begins this fall (link in Bio) To walk in this world with authenticity, agency, humility, honesty, generosity, presence, community, meaning, and connection is a wild, difficult, humbling, and exquisite thing. It is for this reason that I developed and host the @experiencealaya 200HR Yoga Immersion/Teacher Training. This 4-session experience, spread out over 5 months, is designed to help you understand and experience the powerful practices of Hatha Yoga in a relatable and practical way so that you can integrate the tools into your everyday life. Whether you want to steep in an experience of yoga and/or become an informed and effective 200HR Yoga Alliance registered yoga teacher this immersion is for you. It is my great joy and honor to, once again, be calling a community together to go on this journey with me and an amazing team of teachers and mentors in the beautiful Sierra Mountains at my home studio, @palisadesyoga . Everyone is invited to participate in this life-affirming immersion. All-levels, all-abilities, ALL are welcome here. If it was, with all this zeal, we’d be supporting the living in millions of big and little life-giving ways. ~ we’d be taking care of the most vulnerable among us and making sure each person is empowered, not just to survive, but to thrive; ~ we'd be making sure each child was safe, nourished, loved, and empowered; ~ we would be supporting life on this planet instead of obliterating it for our own comforts and self-interests; ~ we wouldn’t actually be spending so much energy on banning abortion - since a ban on abortion does not actually reduce the number of and the need for abortions; ~ we’d be focusing on all of the things that do bring down the number of and need for abortions: access to good reproductive healthcare and family planning for all, education, contraception, family and child support, equity for women in the workforce, equity for the marginalized, empowering women to advocate for safe sex for themselves, addressing the objectification of women, demanding change in the oppressive culture of male domination and control that lead to coercion, manipulation, and sexual violence, etc. ~ we'd trust the women (the life givers) and honor their wisdom. This was never about life. It’s about power. It’s about control. It’s about the deep-seeded mistrust of women that goes back thousands of years and has led to the degradation of our humanity, our societies, our freedoms, our love, and life itself. Happy Earth Day Great Mama THE EARTH AND I I spent the whole day with my hands in the Earth. She obliterated my everyday perspective, and showed me how, out here, we abide by a different kind of law. She helped me to know the immense power of quiet stability, of unconditional support, and of a more humble way to be interwoven into the landscape, one where I don’t stand out so much, but always belong. All day we worked, the Earth and I, performing magic, making food, creating beauty, discovering wildness, and shaping order in the chaos. She reminded me that forgiveness works. That her mighty hand could clear the slate, but how she chooses to continue, not just tolerance, but blessing instead, even though we don’t deserve it. She affirmed the strength of my body, the value of sunshine, and the importance of worms. She held my hands all day long with patience and trust, and told me the story of all living things, how brief and how precious, how fragile and enduring, how very important this one simple task. After hours and hours, the light growing dim, she cooled to a breeze and sent me inside, where I can always find her. ❤️
